Model Behavior. pt. 2

I got together this afternoon with a model friend, Savanah in Carmel Valley.

She had a few ideas she wanted shot (in this white dress with her horse) and I found this really cool external lamp and we got together and made some sweet, sweet photos.

I picked up a set of Pocket Wizards (wireless radio controlled modules), which have made life easy a pie to shoot flash. Holy moses.

My light was a single SB-800 on a light stand at 1/4 power a f/8 and gel'd mostly with a full CTO and my WB set at 2700-3700K and from a cool trick I learned, shooting flash and setting my WB to fluorescent gives these cool bright tones. I shot both an F100 (with Ektar 100) and my D700 at 200 ISO between f/4-10.

Everything performed extremely well and I'm happy with these fashion-y shots.

Post-processed in Adobe Lightroom and CS3.

More model work of mine here.

Model Behavior.

So through a few connections, I've become a fashion photographer.

Now let's clear the misconception that working with good looking models is heaven. Well, it is, but it's still hard work. It can get pretty hectic with everyone running around. I wish I had had a chance to meet the models prior and talk to them individually about small cues, looks and small stuff. Oh well.

I shot for the opening runway show of Charlotte Grace in Carmel. This model really stuck out to me and shot well and she could work it.

I had a single shoot-thru umbrella off to the left of the red carpet aimed at the models. My flash was an SB-800 at f/8 at 1/4 power triggered by Pocket Wizards from my camera, which was set at 1/125 sec at f/8.

More to come...

The Ryan Proofs.

My good friend Ryan Bisio asked me to shoot his photo for his upcoming record and we met up at Monterey Live tonight before his set and I snapped off almost 200 photos.

I used a two light set-up consisting of an SB-600 into a shoot-thru umbrella on 1/4 power and an SB-800 shot at 1/16 power used as a face spot or a guitar spot. Both were gel'ed with various gels.

I really like how these turned out.

2009 AT&T Pro Am - Pt. 3

Yesterday I got to shoot most of the morning at Poppy Hills. It was a nice course to shoot golf, because it was very confined as it's cut through the pine trees.

I shot a few of the celebs, but mostly wanted some nice action shots of pro Phil Mickelson, who has won the Pro Am a few times.

I pulled out a few nice shots. One of my favorite holes to shoot now is the 10th at Poppy. It has this cool lake around the green, which makes for a nice background.

Just wish I had a 300 f/2.8 or a 200-400 f/4...

Phil Mickelson knocks his second shot from the fairway on the 10th hole at Poppy Hills.
(Nikon D700, 70-200  f/2.8).

Vijay Singh hits his second tee shot at Pebble Beach on Friday morning.
(Nikon D700, 70-200 f/2.8, 1.4TC).

Actor Bill Murray tees off on the 11th hole at Poppy Hills.
(Nikon D700, 70-200 f/2.8, 1.4TC).

Parker McLachlin sets up his putt on the 10th green at Poppy Hills.
(Nikon D700, 70-200 f/2.8).

Phil Mickelson knocks a shot from the sand on the 12th hole at Poppy Hills.
(Nikon D700, 28-70 f/2.8).

Phil Mickelson walks off the 12th green at Poppy Hills.

Comedian George Lopez chips a shot up to the 13th green at Poppy Hills.

2009 AT&T Pro Am - Pt. 2

Today I hit the links to shoot the 3M Celebrity Challenge before the first round of play tomorrow.

Here are a few of my favorite shots from today. I nailed it this year... ha.

Singer Justin Timberlake knocks a shot from the sand trap on the third hole at Pebble Beach.

2009 AT&T Pro Am - Pt. 1

I hit the links today to pick up my credentials and (hopefully) get some shots of Brandi Chastain during her practice round at Pebble Beach.

She is best known for her game-winning penalty kick against China in the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup final and her bra-baring celebration afterwards.

I found her mid-way through the 18th and shot her celebrating a par on the hole.

She even let me get a few quick portraits with the cool clouds in the background.

More to come Wednesday.

Golf.

So the annual AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am is amongst us. Credential pick-up and practice rounds start tomorrow and the Celebrity Challenge is Wednesday.

I didn't have a great camera (or more so, didn't know what I was doing) last year, but this year I've been prepping for it a little more. I even have a workstation in the media center at Pebble Beach Lodge to blog and edit from.

Here are a few decent shots (golf pun intended) from last year's ProAm and the First Tee Open (in August).

Mike Weir hits to the 6th green at Pebble Beach during the 2008 Pro Am. (Nikon D50, 18-70 f/3.5-4.5).

Amateur Anna Jang hits out of a bunker at Pebble Beach during the 2008 First Tee Open.  (Nikon D2H, 70-200).

Pro Mike Reid hits a fairway shot on the 6th hole at Pebble Beach during the 2008 First Tee Open. (Nikon D2H, 70-200 f/2.8).

While his caddy holds the flag, pro Tom Watson (right) goes for the 6th hole at Pebble Beach during the 2008 First Tee Open (Nikon D2H, 70-200 f/2.8).

Hopefully much better shots will be had this year by me.

Man, I miss my D2H...
