2010 Monterey Jazz Festival

These are my top 10 favorite shots from almost 2,000 photos taken over the last three days covering the 53rd Monterey Jazz Festival.

I picked them due to various reasons, but mostly because they are different in some way from what you might normally see. I tried different lighting, angles, etc. to make unique shots in a place where photographers are holed in like sardines and all getting similar photos.

Dianne Reeve on the main stage arena on Saturday.

Chris Potter with his progressive quartet on the Garden Stage on Saturday night.

Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews is nicknamed "Satchmo of the Ghetto" due to his similarities to Louis Armstrong.

Trombone Shorty waves to the crowd as he leaves the main stage.

Ahmad Jamal cues to his percussionist during the band's Sunday night main stage performance.

Vocalist Kim Nalley has a laugh with her saxophone player during their Sunday performance on the Garden Stage.

Ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro makes his debut on the Garden stage during the 53rd Monterey Jazz Festival.

Kyle Eastwood plays with his band on Saturday evening.

One half of the French-sister duo Les Nubians open up the main stage on Friday evening.

Moss Landing. (Nikon 80-200 f/2.8).

A few shots from a roll of Kodak Ektar 100. Nice (lack of) grain, though a bit too saturated in its rendition of reds...
